Why most Indian bridal MUAs get dusky skin wrong

The Indian bridal industry was built around a beauty ideal that defaulted to fairer skin. How to identify your undertone

Stand in natural daylight, no makeup, and look at the underside of your forearm. Veins reading blue-purple = cool undertone. Veins reading green-olive = warm or olive undertone. Veins reading both blue and green = neutral. • Setting: A film-forming setting spray, no all-over powder. Pressed powder only at the inner T-zone.

How to know your artist will not do your dusky skin justice

• Their kit photos on Instagram do not show any foundation shades deeper than medium-warm.
• Their bridal portfolio has zero dusky-skinned brides, or all their dusky brides photograph two shades lighter than their neck.
• They ask you in the trial whether you want "fair" makeup. The honest answer to that question is "match my skin properly, please" — but if the artist is asking, they have framed the choice the wrong way.
